Fit me in quickly and even drove me home and picked me up when the service was done. Thank you!
Finding a repair shop for your car can be daunting because often you don’t know who to trust. When I got a mailer about Dave’s Auto Service, I decided to give them a try. I am glad that I did. Scheduling an appointment was easy and convenient online. After booking, I received email confirmation and reminder texts a day before the appointment. When I dropped off my car, everyone was very pleasant and helpful. They drove me home while I waited for the work. Once the inspection was done, I received a call and a text to let me know. The text led to my estimate with details about what needed to be done and the cost involved. From there, I could choose what I wanted to be completed and signed right on my phone. After submitting, they informed me that they would start working right away. When the work was complete, they asked if I needed a ride back to the shop and when I did, they came and picked me up. Everything was done well, they put my documents in a sleeve and left it on the passenger seat. This is a legit family business that puts the customer first. I am so glad I discovered Dave’s for all of my auto needs!

Finally, my faith has been restored after having so many failed attempts to fix my car. I was so scared to try another shop to repair my car and I wanted somebody who I could depend on and to treat me fairly and actually fix my car. I found this at Dave’s auto service. Best decision I ever made, he sent me videos, put on the new parts and when I drove out of there, I felt like I was driving a brand new car, was I ever happy. Everyone in the office from the first time I walked through that door was pleasant and very helpful. I can’t say enough best service ever!!! Dave now has a new customer!!Kathleen Dangler

We provide yearly PA state inspections and emissions testing proudly for over 20+ years. We pride ourselves on keeping vehicle owners safe while on the roads of Pennsylvania and beyond.

Frequently Asked Questions About Safety & Emission Testing

Who must participate?

Motorists with gasolinepowered cars, vans and light-duty trucks (9,000 lbs. or less gross vehicle weight), with a model year 1975 and newer registered in Allegheny, Beaver, Berks, Blair, Bucks, Cambria, Centre, Chester, Cumberland,Dauphin, Delaware, Erie, Lackawanna, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming,Mercer, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia, Washington, Westmoreland and York counties are required to participate in Pennsylvania’s Vehicle Emissions Inspection & Maintenance (I/M) Program.

When do I need an emissions inspection?

The emissions inspection is due once a year at the same time or before your annual safety inspection. If your vehicle is required to undergo an emissions inspection, the message “Emissions Inspection Required/Diesel Vehicles Exempt” will be printed on your vehicle registration card to remind you that an emissions inspection is required for your vehicle.

Where can I get a PA state safety inspection?

You must visit an inspection station that is licensed to test your vehicle type (cars, trucks, vans, SUV, motorcycles). Dave’s Auto Service has been a licensed inspection station for 25 years helping keep drivers on Pennsylvania roads safe. Appointments are always accepted.

What happens if my vehicle doesn’t pass inspection?

If your vehicle doesn’t pass, you must make emissions-related repairs and have your vehicle re-inspected before your current safety inspection expires.Making these repairs will not only reduce emissions, but also may help you improve gas mileage and prolong the life of your vehicle.
After necessary repairs are completed, the first re-inspection will be free, as long as it is done within 30 days at the same place that conducted the initial inspection. If your vehicle still doesn’t pass the inspection, and you can show that you have spent at least $150 on emissions-related repairs, you may be eligible for a one-year waiver.
In some cases, you may have to spend more if a major repair, such as replacing a catalytic converter, is the only reasonable way to address the problem.

Do I need an emissions test and safety inspection?

You must obtain an emissions sticker or a waiver from a certified inspection station and pass a safety inspection before a safety inspection sticker can be affixed to your vehicle.

How do I know if my vehicle is exempt from testing?

A vehicle driven fewer than 5,000 miles during the 12-month period immediately preceding the inspection can qualify for an exemption sticker if you have owned the vehicle for one year or more. Just take your vehicle to an inspection station to verify your mileage and apply for an exemption sticker. Stations may charge a fee for an exemption.
Also, if you have a new vehicle titled and registered for the first time and driven fewer than 5,000 miles, you can apply for an exemption sticker valid until the next inspection is due. Motorcycles are excluded from the emissions inspection program, as are vehicles registered as classics, antiques, collectibles, street rods or specially constructed.
